Indoor or outside in the elements, there’s no lack of ice skating rinks on Chicago’s North Shore! Ice times are always changing so check the skate rink website often. This post was updated on October, 2024.

OUTDOOR ICE SKATING RINKS

Clarkson Park Ice Rink, Northfield

Glenview Community Ice Center, Glenview

Flick, Johns & Roosevelt Parks! Outdoor lighted rinks. They are free and will open when there are consistently cold temperatures. Check the Glenview Park District site for all information.

Meadowhill Park and Tower Rink in Northbrook. The outdoor ice rinks are not supervised. Hockey is allowed at Meadowhill Park Ice Rink but not at Tower Rink.

Weinberg Family Recreation Center (formerly Watts) The ice rinks are open seasonally, from the day after Thanksgiving to the end of February.

West Park Ice Rink, Lake Bluff For the latest updates on rink conditions, watch this page or give us a call at 847-234-6702 (press 5).

Artesian Park Ice Rink, Lake Bluff the rink lights stay on until 9 PM, Monday through Saturday, and until 6 PM on Sundays.

Sunset Woods Park, Highland Park When weather conditions allow (an average temperature of 20 degrees Fahrenheit or colder for 5 consecutive days, 5-6 inches of ground frost), park district staff will begin flooding the ice rink. It takes four 24-hour days to spray and freeze the water to create a base and finish ice.

Mallinckrodt Park
Located north of the building on Elmwood Ave. Parking is available in the north parking lot.
Lights On: Monday-Thursday, sunset-8 pm; Friday-Sunday, sunset-9:30 pm

Thornwood Park
Located off of Thornwood Ave. Parking is available along Dartmouth Ave.
Lights On: Sunday-Thursday, sunset-7:30 pm
Friday & Saturday, sunset-9 pm

Gillson Park
Located: Area west of the tennis courts
Lights On: Monday-Sunday, sunset-10 pm
Restrooms: Upper floor restrooms open daily, 7 am-5 pm
