Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I grew up in a suburb outside of Detroit, Michigan. An internship brought me to Chicago right after college and I fell in love with Chicago so much that I stayed in the city for another ten years.  We moved to Highland Park almost two years ago, and while we used to say we would never leave the city, we adore living here and have never looked back!

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

Three children: A son who is 5, a 3-year-old girl and my 5-month old baby boy.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I’ve been a stay-at-home mom since moving to Highland Park so it may be a surprise to some what I do/did in addition to that. I’m a registered dietitian nutritionist and in my “former life” before staying home with my kids, I worked in PR where I ran nutrition communications and influencer programs for food and restaurant clients (Fun fact: I used to work with Maye Musk for one of my clients).

Also, some years ago I spent a month in Vietman (with my now husband, then boyfriend) with Habitat for Humanity where we built two homes for families in need. It was a life-changing experience where we made lifelong friends (and developed our love for Vietnamese food). We dream of someday leading a Habitat for Humanity trip with our kids.

Favorite mom hack?

Breakfast for dinner, hands down! This is usually my go-to a couple times a week especially when I’m running solo during dinnertime. Build-your-own oatmeal bowls is a favorite with my kids. My kids fill up on oats and always pile their bowls with more fruit and healthy toppings than if I served it to them.

Favorite place to take the kids?

We live at the Botanic Gardens and Rosewood Beach during the warmer months.

Guilty pleasure (ie. Food, desert, snack, hobby)?

Subscribing to fashion and celeb magazines, watching reality TV and eating ice cream in bed. All three on a really indulgent night.

Go-to cosmetic “tired eraser”?

I have a “wake up makeup” trio: mascara, eyebrow filler and highlighter cream. My favorite picks for each include: Thrive Cosmetics Liquid Lash Extensions, NYX tinted brow mascara and MILK Makeup highlighter cream for a little “glow” that looks natural on eyelids, cheekbones and the bridge of your nose.

Favorite family movie?

Sing! We love the music (most of them are covers of classics) and the story line is thoughtful and up-lifting.

Favorite book for you?

One of my favorites is Tuesday’s with Morrie. For a while I was in a habit of re-reading it at the start of the year as a little reminder of what’s truly important.

Favorite Children’s book?

The Giving Tree by Shell Silverstein. Now as a parent, I can barely read it without tearing up!

A perfect day with the family is….

A summer day spent outside by the water.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

Well, I couldn’t do it without my very supportive hubby, Andrew. My mom is also my rock for all things parenting.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I’m the creator of a lifestyle and fashion blog, The Style Du Jour, where I share tips on bringing in a little touch of everyday chic in a very approachable and budget-mindful way. From recipes and room makeovers to style finds and beauty reviews, The Style Du Jour is a creative outlet to share what I’m drawn to at the moment as a busy mom, registered dietitian nutritionist and fashion-enthusiast, and that I believe other women would be interested to know about!

We love your blog! From the photo styling to the lifestyle tips and yummy recipes! What advice can you share with our readers?

With spring on the horizon, there’s no better time than to clear out those closets to make room for some fresh spring styles. I’m always looking for efficiencies so I like to organize AND make a little bonus money at the same time. For example, set aside on-trend and designer pieces to sell to make a little money to invest in new wardrobe finds. I often discuss secondhand shopping and selling on the blog including a recent post “Closet Cleanout Guide: How to Minimize Your Closet and Make Money at the Same Time” where I tell you exactly where and how to sell your clothing and accessories (all from the comfort of home and with very little effort).

And I just published a yummy recipe with my recent blog post “Baked ‘Old-Fashioned’ Doughnuts with Lemon Glaze.”

What’s on the horizon?

What started as a personal creative outlet has turned into an opportunity to connect with so many inspiring companies, brands and female entrepreneurs and I can only hope for that to continue in 2019!
