The first official day of summer isn’t for a few weeks, but it’s high time to (finally!) pack up those warm layers in exchange for cheery, warm weather attire.

Whether it’s re-styling a top stuffed in the corner of your closet, incorporating a thrifted find or picking up something new, here are five current summer style ideas to help thaw your winter wardrobe and get you ready for a breezy summer on the North Shore.

Paperbag Pant or Short. Equally flattering and comfortable, this silhouette is characterized with a high waist, loose fit around the leg, and often comes with a belt to cinch around the waist. There’s no need to hunt down this style – you’ll find pants and shorts galore at your favorite stores to suit any budget and color preference. The Style DJ Tip: Pair with a graphic t-shirt or fine knit tank and tuck in for a polished look.

High Waist Cropped Pant. If you’ve embraced the “mom jean” then you’ll want to try this warmer weather version (which is also equally chic worn in colder months with a boot). With a wide leg, the high waist cropped pant is a comfortable option for balmy days. The Style DJ Tip: Wear with simple mules and a tucked in top to stay effortlessly sophisticated and cool during summer activity drop-offs.

Raffia and Woven Accessories. There’s no denying the natural, laid-back vibe of a straw handbag and they certainly serve a purpose beyond the beach. Raffia, straw or bamboo adds an easy, bohemian edge to everyday summer pieces. The Style DJ Tip: If you want to find a bag that you can enjoy for summers to come, look for one with leather (or vegan leather) trim detailing to help withstand against daily wear and tear.

Clear Totes. The summer’s “IT” bag is all about transparency. This refined take on PVC bags – from oversized totes to belt bags – includes detailing like straw trims, colorful hues and matching pouches to hide all of your bare essentials. The Style DJ Tip: It’s what’s on the inside that counts. Carry a clear tote with coordinated accessories to make your summer style statement complete.

Bermuda Shorts. This is the perfect hybrid between short shorts and capris. From distressed denim to more tailored options, this style is a day-to-night wardrobe staple. The Style DJ Tip. Not sure you want to spend money on a new pair? Give those jeans hiding in your closet new life by cutting the legs slightly above the knee. Wear with sandals and a tee during the day or dress up with a long linen blazer and wedges for an evening alfresco.
