Meet a Mom: Meet a Mac & Mia Stylest, Kim! | Chicago North Shore Moms

If you have not yet heard of the super cute on-line clothing experience for children, Mac & Mia, you have now and you’re welcome :)! Mac & Mia was founded in 2014 by Marie Tillman (co-founder of the Pat Tillman Foundation). The clothing company has quickly become a go-to online shopping experience (hand-picked clothing for your little cuties) and the latest “momtrepreneurial” craze making positive waves in moms across the country! Today, in a special Meet a Mom city edition, we are introducing super mama of two little cuties and Mac and Mia Stylist, Kim Griffiths. Welcome Kim!

Can you please describe your family, where you live and how long you’ve lived there. Why did you choose to live in Chicago?

I live in the Lakeview neighborhood in Chicago with my husband, Clark, 3 year old son, Gavin, and 1 year old daughter, Payton. We’ve lived here for 4 years now and chose the area for the family friendly restaurants, parks, and great schools. We live super close to Wrigley Field (go Cubs!) and love all of the family events at Gallagher Way right outside of the field! I’m originally from Virginia Beach and moved to Chicago after college so I’m still a beach girl at heart!

When did you start working with Mac & Mia and why did you join the team?

I joined Mac & Mia in May of 2017 on the Inside Sales team! I was looking to make a career change from the staffing industry and found Mac & Mia! I moved into a management role that September and decided to transition to a remote stylist position after the birth of my daughter.

What is your favorite part of being a stylist?

I love getting to know my clients and finding pieces I know they will love! There is nothing better than getting a text from a client telling you how much their little one loved their new box!

What was your background prior and how does it help you with your current role?

My background is in finance and operations! In those roles I’ve had to be super organized and efficient with a high attention to detail. Working from home, I’ve had to tap into those skills to keep my workflow moving and my customer’s preferences organized. I still love a good spreadsheet 😊

If someone is considering becoming stylist, what would you like to tell them?

It’s such a fun, rewarding job and anyone who loves working with moms should absolutely apply! As a mom, you need a tribe when raising your littles. I’m blessed to have some amazing mom friends and count so many customers as friends now too!

And if someone is considering using Mac & Mia for the first time, would would you tell them?

Be prepared to fall in love with the service! There is nothing better than having clothes that are hand-picked for your child delivered directly to your door!

What’s a trend in kids clothing you’re loving for summer?

I’m loving metallic shoes for little girls and as always funky graphic tees for little boys!

What should all parents shopping for kids keep in mind, in terms of finding clothes that kids will love?

Always take into account if your child will actually wear the clothes! I often find myself picking pieces for my kids that I love aesthetically but I ignore texture, stretch, and fit which is what my kids pay attention to. Allow your kids a few pieces in their wardrobe that they absolutely love and balance it with some pieces that work with your personal style!

We always like to share some local recommendations from moms we interview! Could you please provide examples of places you love for 4-6 of the below? Thank you!

Restaurants:  We love Crosby’s, Big Star Wrigleyville, Summer House, and Tuco and Blondie.

Date night:  Right now I’m loving Etta, Beatnik, and Ella Elli.

Spend time together as a family indoors/outdoors: We love to go to Gallagher Way for family friendly events when the weather is nice, street festivals in the summer (most have great kid friendly areas!), and the Nature Museum near the Lincoln Park Zoo and Chicago Children’s Museum on Navy Pier on rainy day.

Spa/salon:  I LOVE Siren Salon! Nikki is amazing at Balayage…all my fellow blondes can relate to how awesome it is to find someone who can keep your roots looking good!

Grab coffee:  I love to pop in the Amazon Bookstore, Foxtrot, or the Capital One Café for kid friendly coffee stops!
