Meet a Mom: Highland Park’s Lindsay Cohen Brings Pvolve Fitness to the North Shore - Chicago North Shore Moms

Introducing to the Chicago North Shore Moms community, Highland Park mom of three boys, accomplished entrepreneur and owner of the North Shore’s first Pvolve fitness studio, the fabulous Lindsay Cohen!

Lindsay Cohen is an energetic entrepreneur with a knack for turning her passions into thriving businesses. From a successful career in the tech startup world to now bringing the innovative fitness method Pvolve to the North Shore (Deerfield to be exact), Lindsay is all about creating opportunities for community, connection and longevity through movement. Whether she’s boating on Lake Michigan, dreaming up her next venture, or cheering on her three boys, she embraces life with enthusiasm and generosity. We’re so excited to introduce you to Lindsay and hear more about her journey, her family, and her brand-new studio opening in Deerfield! Welcome, Lindsay!

Hi Lindsay. Please introduce yourself. Where are you from originally? What city do you live in now? What brought you here?

I’m Lindsay Martin Cohen, I grew up in the Buffalo Grove area and went to BGHS. I’ve lived in the Chicago area for most of my life, with the exception of a year in New York City. After I moved back from NYC, I moved to Chicago, where I met my now husband Brian. We lived in the city until 2011 when we moved to Evanston. We moved to Highland Park 6 years ago for a variety of reasons, but finding a house we fell in love with and being walking distance to Ravinia were two big ones!

Tell us about your children and do brag away!

I have three boys, who are 16, 13 and 10 and they are just my favorite people on the planet. When people find out I have 3 boys, many will ask if I had my third because I was trying for a girl, and my answer always is, no, I was trying for 4 boys. I love being a boy mom to my motley crew.

What are one or two fun or interesting things to know about you?

I love boating and playing trivia! My other hobbies include daydreaming about starting new businesses and attempting to learn how to play Mahj.

What are your favorite North Shore places, spaces and eats to frequent with family, date night or just to hang?

I feel so lucky to live so close to Abigails and Steep Ravine in Highland Park. I love going to both of those places with family and friends. I also LOVE Del Rio in Highwood. It feels like I’m part of the history of Highwood whenever I go and the food is delicious. When I’m not eating my way around town, I love to go to Rosewood Beach, especially in the early morning or evening, it’s so peaceful to just sit and stare out over the lake into the sky. It’s my happy place.

Any good reads or tv shows you’ve binged lately?

The best book I’ve read in a while is Kristin Hannah’s The Four Winds. She is an amazing author and I feel like I learned a lot of interesting things about a time in American History that was like a single bullet point when I learned US History in high school. I love how she tells stories from an unusual perspective, and gives voice to people who typically aren’t written about in history books.

Your mantra?

My personal mantra is Be Generous. This isn’t meant to be a financial statement, but rather much broader. I aspire to always be generous to people with my time, energy and with my reactions. I choose to give people the benefit of the doubt and always assume positive intent and I try to be as helpful as I can whenever I can.

It’s time to get down to business. Congratulations on your new workout studio in Deerfield, Pvolve! What is the Pvolve philosophy and what we can expect from this studio.

The Pvolve philosophy can be summarized into 3 main principles.

1. Functional Movement for Real Life
Pvolve trains your body the way it’s meant to move — building strength, mobility, and stability through low-impact, functional exercises that translate directly to everyday life. It’s fitness designed to help you feel and move better, not just look a certain way.

2. Science-Backed, Sustainable Results
Every movement and piece of equipment is rooted in research and designed to be safe for your joints and effective for the long term. The focus is on lasting health, preventing injury, and creating a routine you can stick with for life.

3. Personalized, Inclusive Fitness
Pvolve meets you where you are. With modifications for every body and every phase of life, it’s a method that evolves with you — helping you grow stronger and more confident, no matter your age, fitness level, or goals.
You will encounter all of this at the Studio along with it being a welcoming place, our space will be beautiful and carefully laid out to be calm and enjoyable to make every visit delightful.

What inspired you to open a Pvolve on the North Shore?

I wanted to open a Pvolve on the North Shore for a very selfish reason . . . I wanted it here, but also, for a generous reason . . . I wanted my community to have access to it. As we age, it’s so important for all of us, but especially women to take care of our bodies and maintain our strength so that we can have active, fulfilling lives for as long as possible. After spending so many years sitting at a desk, I truly wanted to bring more opportunities for meaningful movement to myself and my friends (all of you!).

Is this a little bit like Pilates? What’s the difference?

Pvolve is an evolution of Pilates in a lot of ways. You work smaller muscle groups, you focus a lot on the inner core, it’s low impact. You also accompany these low impact movements with resistance, similar to what you do on a reformer.

While Pvolve is also low impact but the workout has more functional load, more dynamic transitions, sometimes more volume of work. The impact is still low, but there may be more muscular burn, more challenge in stability, more involvement of multiple planes (side-to-side, rotational)

Pvolve also has a wider variety in styles: from gentle mobility and stretch to more challenging “Cardio Burn” or “Progressive Weight Training.” Even though low impact, intensity can increase via resistance, speed of transitions, or functional demands.

What did you do before moving into the fitness space?

I have spent most of my career working at tech startups. Most recently I was the COO of a tech-enabled swag company that sold merch and fulfillment technology to big tech companies. We sold that business to private equity a year ago and I’ve been working on Pvolve and a few other things since!
