At Finish Strong, we believe sports are just the beginning, and it is our responsibility to help each child acquire their “wings,” a symbol reflected in our logo. Yes, boys come to camp to spend time with their favorite coaches and friends while playing basketball, soccer, football, and traditional camp games. They come to move, compete, eat popsicles and have fun. But what keeps families coming back year after year is something deeper: leadership, self-belief, and personal growth that carries far beyond the field.
Our mission has always been to help boys grow into strong teammates, thoughtful leaders, and confident young people. There are a million things that are important in sports, but above them all: CHARACTER MATTERS MOST!
Leadership Is Taught, Not Assumed
One of the most unique aspects of Finish Strong is our intentional leadership ecosystem. Our experienced leadership team has spent years developing leadership skills in our staff, many of whom return summer after summer as seasoned counselors and mentors.
Leadership is not assumed. It is practiced.
We continuously work with our staff to sharpen communication, responsibility, emotional awareness, and leadership presence. We take great pride in being leaders of young men and women, knowing that how we lead our staff directly shapes how they lead our campers.
These counselors are not just supervising activities. They are modeling leadership in real time.
Now, those lessons are being passed on to the next generation.
A Culture of Care That Makes a Difference
At the core of Finish Strong is care.
We believe deeply that caring makes a difference. Our staff knows campers by name, notices effort, checks in during tough moments, and celebrates growth. This level of care creates trust, and trust is where confidence grows.
When boys feel cared for, they are willing to try, to fail, and to try again.
“THE BOOM” Leadership System
One of the most powerful ways we bring leadership to life at Finish Strong is through our BOOM Card Leadership System.
Throughout the summer, boys earn BOOM Cards when they demonstrate positive leadership traits such as kindness, bravery, enthusiasm, perseverance, grit, determination, and sportsmanship. These cards are not handed out for scoring points or winning games. They are earned through behavior, effort, and character.
Each BOOM Card is represented by a college or professional athlete, helping campers see that these traits are modeled by people they admire. Boys collect their cards all summer long and can redeem them for prizes and rewards.
But the most meaningful part of the system is the recognition.
When a camper earns a BOOM Card, he is acknowledged in front of his entire age group and, at times, the entire camp. His actions are named, celebrated, and reinforced publicly. Being recognized for who you are, not just what you do, builds confidence in a powerful way.
Over time, boys begin to seek opportunities to lead, encourage teammates, and do the right thing even when no one is watching. Leadership becomes something they practice daily, not something they are told about once.
Building Confidence Through Challenge and Growth
Confidence does not come from winning every game. It comes from being supported through challenge.
At Finish Strong, boys are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones in a positive, growth-focused environment. Our coaches and counselors emphasize effort, attitude, and perseverance over results.
When a boy struggles, our staff slows the moment down. They help him reset, refocus, and move forward. Boys learn that failure is part of growth, not something to fear.
More Than a Camp Experience
Finish Strong is more than a sports camp. It is a place where boys are cared for, challenged, and intentionally guided by leaders who believe in them.
We want our campers to leave believing in themselves, treating others with respect, and understanding that leadership is something they practice every day through their choices.
