CIERA Astronomy Night Out
CIERA Astronomy Night Out
Northwestern University’s Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA) invited the community to attend their 2026 Astronomy Night Out, a free public lecture and community event.
This year’s lecture, “Heavenly Spheres: How Ancient Greece and Rome Mapped the Cosmos,” will be delivered by Nick Winters, Assistant Professor of Classics at Northwestern University. The talk offers an engaging exploration of how ancient civilizations understood and charted the night sky, connecting classical scholarship with enduring questions in astronomy.
Following the lecture, enjoy a variety of informal, family-friendly activities, including:
- Telescope viewing at the historic Dearborn Observatory
- Hands-on exploration of replicas of ancient astronomical instruments
- Interactive astronomy activities for all ages
