Words by Dr. Souji Tummuru, NorthShore Aesthetic Physician.
Many of my patients tell me they’ve been thinking about doing injectables for years, but don’t know where to start! Let’s walk through the most common questions I get.
Will I look frozen/overdone/fake?
This is the #1 concern.
The answer: not when injectables are done thoughtfully.
The goal isn’t to change how you look, it’s to help you look like YOU, just refreshed.
What’s the difference between Botox and Fillers?
Botox (Dysport/Daxxify): relaxes muscles that cause lines.
Fillers: restores volume, contours and enhances structure.
They do completely different things- but often work best when paired together.
When will I see results?
Botox: starts working in a few days, full effect in 10-14 days.
Filler: immediate results, with subtle improvement over 1-2 wks as swelling goes down.
How long does it last?
Botox: 3-4 months
Filler: 9-18 months depending on the area
*Consistent treatments will lead to the best results.
Does it hurt?
This varies from patient to patient, but most find the procedures comfortable- and we have numbing cream and distraction tools to help.
How do I know what I actually need?
This is where a personalized consultation and treatment plan is so important. Many patients come in thinking they need one thing but may benefit more from something different.
When is the “right” time to start?
There’s no perfect age. And it’s never “too late” to start. It’s less about age and more about how you feel.
What should I look for in an injector?
*Medical training and experience- someone who Is committed to advanced education & safety.
*A natural aesthetic style (if you don’t want to look fake, don’t go to an injector that looks fake).
*Someone who prioritizes long term results over quick fixes.
