When it’s cold (which is most of the year) It’s hard to believe that our climate is sustainable for growing produce. But nothing could be farther from the truth! Below is a list of Midwest farms near the North Shore where you can pick your own berries, sunflowers and more. Heider’s Berry Farm (1106 N. Queen Anne Rd., Woodstock, 815-338-0301) Pick your own strawberries at $18 per 4-quqrt basket and rhubarb at $4 per pound. Berries are ripening every day with another 3 weeks to go. No dogs allowed in the field. Someone can stay with the dog in parking or picnic area.
