Apachi Day Camp offers a summer experience that blends classic camp fun with meaningful Jewish engagement. From swimming and sports to performing arts and STEM, campers enjoy the joys of summer while exploring Jewish traditions, culture, and community.
Maccabi Games, modeled after the international event held in Israel, bring high-energy fun and Jewish pride. Some Apachi Day Camp locations feature Shlichim (Israeli counselors), who help campers deepen their connection to Israel, while Jewish programming provides hands-on experiences that together foster a sense of belonging in the global Jewish community.
Jewish life continues to come alive during spirit-filled Shabbat celebrations that bring the entire camp community together to sing, dance, connect and of course, enjoy some challah and grape juice. During these celebrations, Apachi continues a beloved tradition of giving out special Shabbat charms to campers who exemplify one of the camp’s core values: community, kindness, courage, care for the world, respect, and spirit. These small tokens are powerful reminders of the values that guide life at camp—and beyond.
Beyond activities and traditions, Apachi Day Camp is a place where campers find community and belonging. Jewish campers discover a safe space to express themselves and explore their identity, while all campers—regardless of background—are welcomed and included. Non-Jewish campers are encouraged to engage in Shabbat celebrations, song sessions, and other Jewish cultural experiences, becoming allies in building a more compassionate and understanding community.
Built on the Jewish values of kindness, respect, and community, Apachi Day Camp helps cultivate not just fun, but also good kids—kind, compassionate, inclusive individuals who carry these lessons into the world, helping to create the change they wish to see.
Addie Goodman, President & CEO of JCC Chicago shared:
“Camp is so much more than just a summer experience. For many young people, it may be their only Jewish touchpoint throughout the year. For non-Jewish friends, it may be the one way they come to know Jewish people and form their own perspectives and friendships. And it all begins with camp—with making a Jewish choice.”
As the largest provider of Jewish camping in the country, JCC Chicago demonstrates how making a Jewish choice can positively impact campers, families, and the wider community. Each summer, campers and their families experience a unique combination of fun, learning, values-based growth, and connection that extends far beyond the summer months.
