Chicago North Shore Moms is excited to share big news from Countryside Day School! After 36 years of dedication to Montessori education, Head of School Michele Aspinall is thrilled to announce that Countryside will now host two internationally recognized AMI Montessori teacher training programs – right here in Northbrook. It’s a powerful step toward shaping not only the next generation of students, but the educators who will guide them. Learn more about the program from Michele here!
Hi everyone, Michele here. Some of you know me as a longtime teacher at Countryside Day School, and now I have the privilege of serving as Head of School. After 36 years at Countryside, I’ve seen firsthand how Montessori changes lives; not just for the children who grow up in our classrooms, but for the adults who dedicate themselves to this work.
That’s why I’m so proud to share that beginning this June (2025), Countryside will host two internationally recognized Montessori teacher training programs in partnership with the Montessori Center of Minnesota (MCM) and Association Montessori Internationale (AMI).
These blended certification courses (one for Infant/Toddler ages 0-3 and one for Primary ages 3-6) will take place at our beautiful North Lodge facility right here in Northbrook. They’ll combine online learning with immersive, in-person training in the Montessori method. It’s flexible, rigorous, and deeply rooted in the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori herself.

What makes this Montessori certification truly special?
Countryside is now the only Montessori school in Illinois offering AMI teacher training on-site. That means we’re not just nurturing the next generation of Montessori children; we’re helping to prepare the next generation of Montessori educators.
For those unfamiliar, AMI is the organization Dr. Montessori founded in 1929 to preserve the integrity and depth of her work. Training through AMI is known around the world for its quality and authenticity, and we’re honored to bring that level of preparation to our community.
I hope this is just the beginning of something lasting. My dream is that Countryside becomes a hub for Montessori educators across the Midwest, a place where adults can grow in the same way our students do: with purpose, care, and community.
If you’ve ever thought about becoming a Montessori teacher, or if you know someone who’s curious, please spread the word. And of course, if you’re looking for a Montessori program for your child, we’d love to welcome you to Countryside too!

Warmly,
Michele Aspinall Head of School Countryside Day School
