Meet a Mom: Meet Philanthropist, Amy Hausman! | Chicago North Shore Moms

Hello friendly faces! It’s that time of the week! We’re back with a new Chicago North Shore Moms spotlight brought to you in part by Mary Gifford of Gifford Law.

This week’s Meet a Mom is a spotlight on Highland Park born and raised philanthropist and mom of two, Amy Hausman. Amy chats about local passion projects, favorite restaurants stops and Lake Forest Country Day School. Welcome, Amy!

Hi Amy! Please introduce yourself.

Hi! My name is Amy Hausman. I was born and raised in Highland Park. I truly feel like it’s been a great place to raise children, and I’m lucky that by living here I also get to be close to my family and friends. My daughters are 12 and 14, in the 8th and 6th grade and both are tennis players.

What are your favorite North Shore places, spaces and eats to frequent?

There are so many great ones! If I had to choose a few, I would say Andros Taverna in Logan Square, EJs Place in Wilmette and Abigail’s American Bistro in Highland Park.

What gets you through a tough day?

Pilates, a great workout, a massage or a glass of wine!

What is your mantra?

We shine brightest together.

Tell us about your endeavors – how do you spend your time when the kids are at school?

When the kids are at school, I very much enjoy volunteering and dedicating my time supporting meaningful non-profits. In addition to volunteering many hours at my kid’s school, I volunteer with JUF where I serve as an executive member of the Women’s Board. I am also a member of the Chicago Lighthouse Associate Board.

Speaking of school, your children go to Lake Forest Country Day School in Lake Forest. Why did you decide on this school? Tell us what you love most about the school, what the kids love most…

Lake Forest Country Day School is a co-educational independent private school for students age 2 through Grade 8, founded in 1888. What do we love most?! I love that my kids love going to school. We were searching for an environment where our girls would grow intellectually, but also socially and emotionally. We wanted a community that valued parent participation. Lake Forest Country Day School has this mantra of knowing and loving its students, but that care extends to the entire family. Our girls are in the Upper School and one is getting ready to graduate this spring; I love that they both have said they would stay at LFCDS if they could!

What is the mission of Lake Forest Country Day School?

Inspired teaching, academic rigor, attention to individual needs, a commitment to responsible citizenship—these principles infuse every aspect of life at Lake Forest Country Day School and define dedication to producing students of strong character with a passion for learning.

You are this year’s Lake Forest Country Day School auction co-chair. Tell us more about the auction event and where the money goes.

The Lake Forest Country Day School auction represents an important philanthropic opportunity for our community. Although it’s a tuition-driven school, the cost of attendance doesn’t cover the total cost of operating the school, so Lake Forest Country Day School relies on families to cover that gap through an Annual Giving campaign and an Annual Auction. The proceeds benefit our program in many ways; from providing resources for faculty professional development to bringing special speakers and programs to campus, as well as raising money for new technologies. It’s a night to celebrate and support Lake Forest Country Day School, and one of my favorites on the school calendar!

Are there any open houses coming up at Lake Forest Country Day School?

Yes! LFCDS has two remaining open houses for the 2023-2024 school year:

  • Tuesday, January 23 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, March 6 at 9:00 a.m.

To register for an open house, visit www.lfcds.org/admission, or call (847) 615-6151.
