Virtual: Celebrate the Holiday Season with The Nutcracker, and Grand Jeté and Me
December 5, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
On Sunday, Dec. 4th at 2 PM, join The Book Stall, an indie bookstore based in Winnetka, IL, as they present a special online program with illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser and Salt Creek Ballet Artistic Director Erica De La O, who will discuss Robin’s new picture book Grand Jeté and Me, as well as the Salt Creek Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker. They’ll also chat about how to create and foster a career in the arts. All attendees will be entered in a raffle for great prizes, including limited edition prints from Grand Jeté and Me, copies of the book, and tickets to The Nutcracker!
20% of all book sales will go to help unprivileged youth attend a performance of The Nutcracker. Register HERE for this free program, suitable for ages 7 and up. About the Book: This Christmas, join a young girl and her grandmother as they embark on a holiday adventure to see The Nutcracker together! Grandmother, known as “Grand Jeté,” was once a prima ballerina who danced in The Nutcracker herself, and now she’s sharing the magic of this special ballet.
Former prima ballerina Allegra Kent and bestselling Fancy Nancy illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser collaborated to create an inspiring and festive tale for the littlest dancers and Nutcracker fans everywhere. Each copy of Grand Jeté and Me purchased from The Book Stall will contain a bookplate signed by the illustrator, while supplies last! “The detailed illustrations, featuring the New York City Ballet’s Nutcracker costumes and sets, are joyous and bubbly.” — Kirkus Reviews Robin Preiss Glasser actually wore tiaras and tutus when she danced with the Pennsylvania Ballet. Now she happily spends her days in jeans, drawing. She is the New York Times bestselling illustrator of many books for children, including the Fancy Nancy series, written by Jane O’Connor, You Can’t
Take a Balloon into the Metropolitan Museum, written by Jacqueline Preiss Weitzman, You Made Me a Mother, written by Laurenne Sala, and Escape Goat and Lambslide, written by Ann Patchett. She lives in California with her husband, Bob. Erica De La O was born in East Los Angeles, CA, and is a Principal Artist with The Louisville Ballet. Ms. De La O’s repertoire included leading roles in much of the classical canon, including La Sylphide, Giselle, Swan Lake, Romeo, and Juliet, Cinderella, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Les Sylphides, Lady of the Camellias, and The Nutcracker. She’s danced works choregraphed by many of the major figures of the 20th and 21st centuries. Beyond ballet, she has also forged a career as an award-winning choreographer and collaborative artist in music, film, and graphic design.
